What is checked, and what is not

This is a site about places that are hard to find. Getting a coordinate wrong here is not an editing mistake, it is somebody driving eighty miles into a desert after a decimal point.

Where the facts come from

Coordinates, county assignments and population figures come from Wikidata and the linked Wikipedia articles. Each place page names the article it was checked against. The prose is ours, written from those facts rather than paraphrased off the page.

Where a site has no coordinate on record, the page says so instead of offering an approximate one dressed up as precise. Four decimal places implies eleven metres of accuracy, and we are not going to imply that about a station site known only as "below the pass".

Corrections

If you know this country and something here is wrong, we would rather hear it. Useful corrections say what the page claims, what is actually the case, and where that can be checked: a BLM field office, a county recorder, a refuge manager, a published survey.

Particularly welcome: station sites that have been re-surveyed, roads that have changed condition permanently, and anywhere we have described private land as though it were open.

This site does not publish opening hours, fees or road status. Those change faster than any page updates, and out here a confidently wrong answer is worse than none.
