Round Station, Deep Creek Canyon and Overland Canyon
Where the trail leaves the flat and goes into the mountains, through the canyon that gave everyone trouble.

Round Station takes its name from its shape, a circular stone structure unusual among the rectangular boxes elsewhere on the line. Its walls survive in part.
Beyond it the route enters Overland Canyon and then the country below the Deep Creek Range, which rises to over twelve thousand feet and holds snow into summer. This is the most enclosed ground on the whole Utah stretch, and after two days of horizon it feels almost claustrophobic.
The canyon road is narrow and rough. It is the section most likely to need higher clearance.
This is remote, unpaved country with no fuel, no water and thin phone coverage for a hundred miles. Carry more water than you think you need, tell somebody your route, and do not attempt the crossing in a low car after rain. The BLM manages most of the road; call the Salt Lake Field Office for current conditions rather than trusting any page, including this one.
