Fish Springs National Wildlife Refuge
A spring-fed marsh in the middle of a salt desert, and the least likely thing on the Pony Express road.

Fish Springs lies at the southern end of the Great Salt Lake Desert in Juab County, managed by the US Fish and Wildlife Service. Warm springs feed thousands of acres of marsh in country that is otherwise bare salt and sage.
It is a major stop for migratory birds and the contrast is genuinely startling: open water and reed beds with white desert on every horizon.
There is an auto tour route. There is no fuel, no shop and no reliable phone signal. It sits on the Pony Express route roughly two thirds of the way across.
