Antelope Island
The largest island in the Great Salt Lake, reached by causeway, with a bison herd and a very strange shoreline.

Antelope Island is a state park connected to the mainland by a seven mile causeway. It carries a free-ranging bison herd, pronghorn, and some of the most exposed views of the Great Salt Lake anywhere.
The lake itself is the thing that unsettles people. Depending on the water level you may be looking at open water or at a mile of cracked salt flat where water used to be. The level has been falling for decades and the exposed lakebed is a live public health question in Salt Lake City, not a curiosity.
Frary Peak is the high point and a reasonable half day walk in cool weather. In summer the island is hot, shadeless and full of biting insects, which is a combination worth planning around.
