Silver City

Silver City is in northwestern Owyhee County and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. At its height in the 1880s it held around two thousand five hundred people and roughly seventy five businesses, on gold and silver.
What makes it unusual among western ghost towns is what did not happen to it. The town was never connected to the electrical grid and was never modernised, so the surviving buildings are much as they were left rather than adapted and then abandoned again.
Around seventy structures stand, including the hotel and the schoolhouse. Some are privately owned and seasonally occupied, which puts Silver City in the same category as Ophir and Cherry Creek: not empty, just very small.
The road in is unpaved mountain track, generally open from around late May to October and impassable outside that. There is no fuel.
