A river port the Mississippi walked away from, with a Civil War cannonball still lodged above the church windows.

Rodney is in Jefferson County, and most of its buildings are gone. Those that remain are in varying states of collapse, and the town floods regularly, which is doing the rest of the work.
The Presbyterian church is the reason people come. Its façade was damaged during the Civil War, and the restoration includes a replica cannonball set above the balcony windows where the original struck. The Rodney History and Preservation Society is working on the building.
The town was once a serious river port, and the river is why it is not one now: the Mississippi shifted its channel and left Rodney inland. A place that existed because of a waterway lost the waterway.
The Rodney Center Historic District covers the surviving fabric. Access is by unpaved road through low ground and it is not reliable after rain.
